Try Different Essential Oils to Relieve Stress and to Feel More Beautiful

Essential Oils are potent medicines for the gut. During a particularly stressful time in my life, a friend gave me some lemon verbena oil. I’d never had any dramatically positive experiences with aroma therapy, though I enjoy lovely scents (when they don’t make me sneeze!)  I poured a few drops into a hot bath, and the tart, sweet lemon scent filled the room. To my surprise, I felt the sadness begin to lift. This shift in mood lasted the entire evening, inspiring me to put a few drops of the lemon verbena on my pillow. I woke up the next morning feeling renewed, and ready to make the changes that I’d been resisting. I would never have imagined a few drops of oil could inspire such a change of heart!

.

Needless to say, during this stressful time, my digestion had gone to hell. I was gassy and bloated as if I’d been living on beans. The day after my lemon verbena bath, I noticed that my tummy was nearly flat again…and calm. Hallelujah!

.

The scents around us affect our emotions. When we breathe something we love and associate with good memories, we immediately relax. Our bellies respond to wonderful aromas, and this supports our digestion, lifts our spirits and calms our nerves. Uplifting scents include all the citrus scents, such as orange, grapefruit, lemon verbena, and tangerine.

.

These scents are also very uplifting:

  • Mint

  • Bergamot

  • Rosemary

  • Clary Sage

Test them at the store to see which ones you like best. If you’re feeling depressed or anxious, mix a few drops of one of these crisp-smelling oils with almond oil, and dab it on your wrists and chest. Here are some other ways you can use these oils:

.

  • In an atomizer, mixed with water as a spray

  • In a scented candle

  • On a handkerchief or scarf

Happy-Gut Reminder: Keep your favorite essential oil on hand, and dab a little on your wrist and feel your mood lift.
