 Since Day Seven of our 21-Day Cleanse in It Takes Guts to Be Happy is a juice fasting day, this tip is about fasting. My motto for successful, high-energy fasting is GO GREEN. If you are prone to gas and bloating, don’t mix fruits and veggies when you juice or make smoothies. Your local juice bar will likely advertise wonderful-sounding smoothies or juices that include apple or pineapple, along with greens like kale and spinach. Some of us get away with those mis-combinations just fine, but many of us just end up bloated and gassy.


The three delicious smoothie recipes below will turbo-charge your day!  Always make sure your produce is organic.

TLC for your colon and colon cleansing

Green Drinks for Fasting Days as TLC for Your Colon

 Spicy & Green

 1 cup celery-carrot juice

1 bunch spinach

1 bunch arugula

2 large ripe tomatoes or 1 cup of red or yellow cherry tomatoes

1 lemon

1 inch slice of fresh ginger

Pinch of Himalayan sea salt

Optional: 2 ice cubes

Blend and serve.


Chocolate Dream


1 cup coconut, almond or rice milk

1 frozen banana

2 tbs. cacao powder

1 scoop chocolate or vanilla protein powder

Optional: 1 cup frozen strawberries or raspberries

Blend and Serve.


Blueberry Jam

2 cups frozen blueberries

1 cup coconut, almond or rice milk

1 tbs. hemp seed powder

1 tbs. coconut oil

Optional: Frozen banana

Blend and serve.
